10 Confessions for Walking In Love

“How will I know I’m in love?” That was the question a young Kenneth Copeland asked his mother, and one we may well have asked at one point in our lives, too. It’s a valid question. Kenneth’s mother answered him saying, “You’ll know, you’ll know,” and when Kenneth met Gloria, he knew.

If you’ve ever fallen in love, then you understand. At some point in the relationship, you just knew, didn’t you? Love like this can last a lifetime, but as we all know, in some instances it fades, and it doesn’t last. What good news then to know that God’s love for us lasts forever! It never fades. It never wanes. There’s literally nothing we can do to get away from it or cause Him not to love us—ever.

Paul wrote about this saying, “…Nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

As we celebrate all things “love” this month, let’s celebrate God’s unconditional and eternal love for us by reminding ourselves to walk in love with everyone we know and everyone we meet. Let’s love them with the everlasting love of God. First Corinthians 13 is a powerful chapter on love, a reminder we can take to heart and personalize as our confession. “If I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God’s love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God’s love in me) I am nothing (a useless nobody). Even if I dole out all that I have [to the poor in providing] food, and if I surrender my body to be burned or in order that I may glory, but have not love (God’s love in me), I gain nothing” (verses 1-3 AMPC).

To keep confessing this beautiful chapter on love as your personal prayer of confession, speak these 10 Confessions for Walking In Love based on the AMPC to keep yourself loving the way God loves you and walking in His love with others.

  1. Because I walk in love, God’s love, I endure long.
  2. Because I walk in love, God’s love, I am patient and kind.
  3. Because I walk in love, God’s love, I am never envious, nor do I boil over with jealousy.
  4. Because I walk in love, God’s love, I am not boastful or vainglorious, nor do I behave haughtily.
  5. Because I love, I am not conceited, arrogant or inflated with pride.
  6. Because I love, I am not rude or unmannerly, nor do I act unbecomingly.
  7. Love, God’s love in me, does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy, fretful, or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it, it pays no attention to a suffered wrong.
  8. Love, God’s love in me, does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.
  9. Love, God’s love in me, bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, has fadeless hope under all circumstances, and endures everything, without weakening.
  10. Love, God’s love in me, never fails. It never fades out, becomes obsolete or comes to an end.

The chapter ends by telling us that faith, hope and love abide. Faith is the conviction and belief about man’s relation to God and divine things. Hope is the joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation. And love is true affection for God and others, growing out of God’s love for and in us. There are these three, but the greatest of these is love—God’s love for us and in us. Happy love month!
